Did you know?
Rescued Barn Owls looked after in captivity can sometimes live for 20 years or more! For less than 70p a week, you can help us look after one of the rescued Barn Owls in our care shown in the thumbnail pictures above. Scroll through the Barn Owls below to find out more about each individual!

Audrey

FEMALE • WILD • FEISTY • MAIN AVIARY

Audrey is a wild female Barn Owl who was brought in to us as a nestling!

She can fly, but not very well, so she resides in our Main Aviary which has been adapted to enable disabled birds to reach the food tray and roosting boxes easily. She shares this aviary with 3 other Barn Owls, some of which also have wing injuries, and has settled in well to her surroundings.

Audrey is a beautiful Barn Owl, being quite orange, and she is always very feisty during her annual health checks, which is a very good sign!

Baley

MALE • CAPTIVE-BRED • CONFIDENT • ASSISTANT EDUCATION OFFICER!

Baley was a surprise addition to the Trust in 2006 – adopt him to find out more!

Because he has grown up comfortable around people, Baley has supported the Trust at many education talks to school children. He is a real asset to the team! He has met a few famous people and been featured on TV!

Even though he is getting older (Baley turned 17 in 2023), he remains handsome and healthy! We hope he will continue to be able to visit schools and inspire children for many years to come.

Del

MALE • WILD • LAID-BACK • FIELD AVIARY

Del arrived at the Trust in 2015 after having his wing pinned at a local vets. Sadly, he never regained the strength in the wing to fly well enough to be released back into the wild. Despite his old injury, Del can still get around his aviary just fine! He is in our Field Aviary with 2 other Barn Owls who also have wing injuries. This aviary is adapted so that the food tray and roosting boxes are easily accessible.

Del is a smaller Barn Owl and is very handsome owl. He has a reputation for being very laid-back! He doesn’t mind the annual health checks at all and just watches everything that’s going on.

Dusky

FEMALE • WILD • SASSY! • MAIN AVIARY

Dusky came to the Trust in 2018 after being found at the side of the road with a broken wing. Despite being treated by the vets, her wing has never recovered well enough for her to be released back into the wild. She lives in our main aviary with 3 other females Barn Owls with wing injuries. This aviary has been adapted for the disabled birds to get around more easily.

Dusky has a beautiful face and has always been one of the smaller females. However, what she lacks in stature she makes up for in attitude! She tends to be very sassy during the health checks and seems to love posing for the camera!

Dusky

Earnest

MALE • CAPTIVE-BRED • CALM • FIELD AVIARY

Earnest had to be reared in captivity from a very young age, which meant that he could not be released into the wild. This resulted in Earnest arriving at the Trust in 2004.

Earnest lives happily with two other male Barn Owls.

Earnest has a reputation as one of our most handsome birds! We think he knows it too… He is very calm when handled for the health checks and tends to be a very laid-back owl in general.

Earnest

Elizabeth

FEMALE • CAPTIVE-BRED • CONFIDENT • MAIN AVIARY

Elizabeth is a captive female Barn Owl who was signed over to the care of the RSPCA following a legal case. She arrived at the Trust in 2013 in good condition. She has no health issues but, as she was born in captivity, Elizabeth cannot be released into the wild. She now lives very happily in an aviary with 3 other female Barn Owls.

Elizabeth is a classically beautiful female Barn Owl with gorgeous speckles peppered over her body. Unusually she has a dark beak which makes her stand out from the crowd. Elizabeth is a lovely, strong owl and quite the character!

Ivy

FEMALE • WILD • CALM • MAIN AVIARY

Ivy was brought to us in 2012 with a badly broken right wing. She was treated at the vets before returning here to recuperate. Sadly, Ivy’s wing was in such a bad shape that, despite giving her the best care available, she didn’t regain full use of it. She is unable to fly and we could not release her back into the wild. She now lives happily in an aviary adapted for disabled Barn Owls with two other females.

Ivy stands out from the other female owls because she has dark talons, a very white chest and fluffy feet! Ivy does not like to be picked up, but is generally very placid during the annual health checks. She is in top condition, especially for an older owl.

Rose

FEMALE • WILD • FEISTY! • FOSTER HOME

Rose came to the Trust in August 2012. She is a female captive bred Barn Owl who ended up at a Wildlife Rescue Centre. The Trust agreed to take Rose long-term and she moved into our sanctuary at Waterleat.

Rose has always been a feisty owl, with a lot of sass, and we had trouble finding her an aviary she approved of! Rose moved to a foster home in 2022 where she settled into her new aviary very well. She loves to fly around her aviary and peer out of her roosting box to see who is in ‘her’ garden. We receive regular updates from her loving fosterers and continue to do her annual health checks.

Silver

FEMALE • WILD • SWEET • FOSTER HOME

Silver came to the Trust in 2019. She was found in a poor state locally and is blind in one eye. Unfortunately, Silver did not recover enough to be released back into the wild so became a permanent resident. In 2023, Silver moved to a local foster home! She has a wonderful aviary with lots of space and is very well cared for! We continue to do her annual health checks at her new home.

Silver is a stunning beauty and has always been a calm, sweet owl! She has always been very laid-back during her health checks and is easy to handle.

Tormund

MALE • CAPTIVE-BRED • FEISTY! • LIVES WITH TYRION

Tormund came to the Trust in 2017 when the sanctuary he lived in was forced to close down. We took him in along with another male Barn Owl (Tyrion).

Tormund was not in great condition when he got here but it didn’t take long for him to settle in to his new home and after a bit of preening we could see what a beautiful bird he is! He is in great condition and lives in a big aviary with Tyrion.

Tormund was named after ‘Tormund Giantsbane’, a fictional character from the popular TV programme ‘Game of Thrones’. The character is loyal, strong and a little bit cheeky, which we think suits this feisty but handsome Barn Owl perfectly!

Tyrion

MALE • CAPTIVE-BRED • CHEEKY • LIVES WITH TORMUND

Tyrion came to the Trust in 2017 when the sanctuary he lived in was forced to close down. We took him in along with another male Barn Owl (Tormund).

Tyrion was looking a bit worse for wear when he got here but was a good healthy weight and it didn’t take long for him to settle in to his new home.

Tyrion was named after ‘Tyrion Lannister’, the lovable fictional character from the popular TV show ‘Game of Thrones’. The character is a bit of a party animal with a good heart and high intelligence…we think it’s an apt name for this cheeky chap! He has a very intellegent look in his eyes, and is always interested in everything that’s going!

Willow

FEMALE • WILD • CALM • MAIN AVIARY

Willow came to the Trust in 2016. She was found in the middle of a road unable to fly, very thin and covered in flat flies. The vets couldn’t find any injuries, so we kept her under close observation and gave her lots of TLC. It wasn’t long before she gained weight and became a lot more lively!

Due to her never regaining full mobility in her left wing, she became a permanent resident in our Main Aviary, which is adapted for less mobile birds! Willow looks magnificent now, she is strong and has a beautiful snowy white chest, which is unusual for a female Barn Owl! Willow is lovely and calm during the health checks.
